Take Profit Trader payout rules: PRO vs PRO+ buffer, split and speed

By TradeDesk HQ editorial desk · checked against the official sources below

The short answer

Take Profit Trader PRO pays 80/20 and needs a buffer equal to the max drawdown before profit withdrawals: a 50K PRO must reach $52,000. PRO+ is live, by invitation only, pays 90/10 with no buffer. Tradovate PRO account-to-wallet withdrawals are automated in 5-10 seconds; wallet-to-bank review takes up to 12 business hours.

How the PRO buffer works

In the PRO account the buffer equals the maximum drawdown, and the PRO drawdown equals the drawdown of the Trading Test you passed: $1,500 on 25K, $2,000 on 50K, $2,500 on 75K, $3,000 on 100K and $4,500 on 150K. Take Profit Trader's own example: on a $50,000 account the maximum drawdown, which it calls the buffer zone, is $2,000, so you need a balance of $52,000 to start withdrawing at 80% of total profit. The firm's buffer table lists the resulting balances ($26,500, $52,000, $77,500, $103,000, $154,500) under the same 'buffer zone' label, so the term covers both the amount and the balance. The firm says you can withdraw from day one and that payout eligibility is daily, but also that the buffer must be built first; its help center does not describe any withdrawal before the buffer zone is reached.

What happens to the buffer when the account closes

Take Profit Trader's withdrawal rules say: 'You can withdraw 50% of your Buffer Zone after your account is closed.' The article does not say whether that is half of the drawdown amount or half of the listed balance, whether the 80/20 split applies to it, or whether a liquidated account counts as closed. We do not compute a figure from it; confirm with the firm before relying on it.

Payout step 1: trading account to wallet

Your PRO balance in the Control Center is not real time; it updates once a day between 8 and 9 PM ET. You must be flat with no open positions or working orders at the exact moment you submit, and the 20% commission is deducted automatically so the form shows the 80% you receive. On Tradovate PRO accounts the account-to-wallet step is automated and takes 5-10 seconds with no pending window; Take Profit Trader's own example is profit at 3 PM, funds in the wallet the same evening. A request is denied only for insufficient funds, open positions or working orders, Tradovate maintenance or a Tradovate API fault, and can be resubmitted immediately. Rithmic PRO accounts, PRO+ accounts, cancelled or disabled PRO accounts, and a small number of archived Tradovate PRO accounts (flagged by Tradovate after three or more days of liquidation) still go through manual review. The firm gives no current time for that step; it says the old manual review could take up to 12 business hours and that automating the rest frees the team to process the remaining manual requests faster.

Payout step 2: wallet to bank, fees and methods

Sending wallet funds to your bank is a separate request. The Profit Team reviews it manually for compliance, which takes up to 12 business hours though usually a lot faster, and same-day deposit is not guaranteed. US bank payouts go through Plaid and are typically real-time, in some cases 1-2 business days depending on the bank; PayPal and Wise payouts take up to 12 business hours to process. Wise covers 160 countries and is the route for international bank wires; LLC payouts must use Wise, or PayPal if the LLC has its own PayPal account. The bank, Wise or PayPal account must belong to the person registered at Take Profit Trader, otherwise the payout is delayed for review or denied. Wallet withdrawals above $250 carry no fee; a withdrawal of $250 or less costs $50, deducted automatically, and PayPal may add its own fees.

How the PRO+ invitation works

Take Profit Trader describes PRO as a simulated account that is practice for PRO+, where you trade the live market with the firm's funds; PRO profits are still paid. PRO+ accounts are live with $0 margin, orders are routed directly to the exchange rather than copied, and the trader is classified as a professional and moved to professional market data. There is no single threshold: the firm reviews consistency, risk management, execution patterns and discipline over time, and sends an email invitation at its sole discretion. Its Sustainable Trading Policy says patterns such as maximum position size on most trades, repeatedly blowing through loss limits, relying on simulation-specific fills or account churning draw closer review, and that strategies which only work in simulation will not be funded. PRO performance is expected to replicate in PRO+; a material gap between the two is reviewed before more capital is extended.

What changes at the PRO+ upgrade

Setup typically takes several days after you complete the onboarding documents. The market data upgrade can take up to 12 hours, during which trading on your PRO and test accounts is temporarily unavailable. Once PRO+ is issued, all trading and withdrawals move to PRO+ and the PRO account is placed on hold. $5,000 of PRO profit is frozen and must stay in the PRO account while PRO+ is active; anything above $5,000 can be withdrawn immediately at the PRO split. The PRO+ account starts at $0 with an end-of-day drawdown equal to the original PRO's starting drawdown, so a 50K origin starts at $0 with a -$2,000 limit; realized end-of-day profit trails the minimum balance up until it reaches $0, where it stays. If the PRO+ account is lost, remaining PRO+ profit plus your share of the frozen $5,000 can be withdrawn; a negative PRO+ balance is deducted from that $5,000 first and the remainder is paid under the PRO split.

Drawdown in PRO vs PRO+

In PRO the trailing drawdown is intraday and uses your peak balance including unrealized gains. The firm's $25,000 example: with a $1,500 drawdown, an unrealized profit of $1,000 lifts the minimum balance to $24,500 in real time; closing that trade for a $500 realized gain leaves the balance at $25,500 and the minimum at $24,500, so you are $1,000 from the limit. It trails until it reaches the starting balance and then stops moving; touching the minimum balance through realized or unrealized losses liquidates the account immediately. In PRO+ the drawdown is end-of-day, and the rules state that the balance including open positions must not reach the limit.

The consistency rule that gates PRO

To move from the Trading Test to PRO you need at least 3 trading days (a day with at least one trade) and your best day must be below 50% of total net profit. Exceeding 50% does not fail the test; the required profit rises to more than twice your best day. The firm's 50K example: days of +$2,000, +$600 and +$500 give $2,000 / $3,100 = 65%, so you must make more than $4,000 before the account qualifies.
