Trailing drawdown: intraday vs end-of-day, how a breakeven trade can cost half your room
The short answer
A breakeven trade can still cost you half your drawdown room.
Key figures (as reported)
- 50K account, $2,000 trailing drawdown. A trade runs to +$1,000 open profit, then you close it flat.
- End-of-day trailing: floor stays $48,000.
- Intraday trailing: floor is now $49,000.
- End-of-day (Topstep's Maximum Loss Limit): The floor rises only with your balance at the close and never moves down.
- 50K Combine: start $50,000, floor $48,000.
- Day 1 +$500: floor trails up to $48,500.
- Day 2 -$500: balance back to $50,000, floor stays $48,500.
- Intraday (MyFundedFutures Rapid plan, funded stage): The floor follows your peak equity, open profit included. If equity then falls, even mid-trade, it stays put.
- MFF's generic example: equity high $51,000, floor $49,000. Rapid funded itself starts at $0.
- Same on both: open losses count.
- Topstep's example: floor $48,000, an open trade drops equity to $47,750. Liquidated, even though the exit left $48,050.
- Neither floor moves down. It locks at $50,000 on a Topstep 50K Combine, at $100 on an MFF Rapid funded account.
